Adventure! Through the eyes of joy.
So appropriate for navigating the world of today!
We were thinking about this word and what it might conjure up in people’s minds so thought a dictionary definition might be appropriate. Then we began to look at the origin of the word itself.
In Latin it meant “to arrive.” In old French it meant "chance, accident, occurrence, event, happening.” It then went through many evolutions of adding the ad to taking it away and the meaning changed from “risky and dangerous to “a wonder, a miracle, an account of marvellous things.”
So somewhere in amongst all those meanings the word adventure means what to you?
For us, our whole lives are an adventure. Meaning not only have we been on marvellous, risky, dangerous adventures but we have also told our accounts in story form of these wondrous travels. All filled with events, happenings, miracles and awesome occurrences….and finally we feel we have at last “arrived” at a point in our lives where each day holds the promise of an amazing adventure! To be honest we arrived here many moons ago and it wasn’t an easy journey for a lot of the time. Yet it is a journey we would do all over again to be where we are today on all levels of our being.
Helen Keller once wrote: Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. God Himself is not secure, having given man dominion over His works! Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. The fearful are caught as often as the bold. Faith alone defends. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. To keep our faces toward change and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable.”
If adventure for you is too risky and you would prefer to not venture out then please feel free to do just that. What is that saying? “Nothing ventured, nothing gained.” In the very least moving out of your perceived security will widen your comfort zone to where you never imagined it could go. Eventually even the thoughts that come into your head will be an adventure within itself.
Life is for the living and for living, no matter your challenges in this time and at this time, be they mental, emotional, spiritual or physical….you can always in some way, be it little or small move beyond where you are right now, if you want to.
If we had decided that the task spirit had set out for us was going to be too risky, we would have missed out on so much. The whole world opened up to us not only on the seen level but on the unseen levels as well.
Are we saying that you should do things that would put you physically at risk…no we are not! Simply looking at life through eyes of joy opens your life up to new adventures.
Step up, step out, be bold, be brave, be afraid and do it anyway!
